What you get when you submit

Not just a lonely number. A complete report, generated instantly — no waiting, no paying to unlock it.

01

IQ estimate + margin of error

Questions are weighted by difficulty and converted to the familiar IQ scale (average 100, standard deviation 15). We also show a ±7-point margin of error — every test has one, so we print ours.

02

Percentile rank

Roughly what share of people you scored above. “Higher than about 96% of people” is a lot easier to grasp than an abstract “126.”

03

Five-skill profile

Pattern reasoning, number sequences, logic, spatial reasoning, and verbal analogies — each scored separately and shown in a radar chart and bars, so you can see where you're strong and where you're not.

04

Answer-by-answer breakdown

All 20 questions, one by one: your answer, the correct answer, and how to solve it. You'll see exactly where you went wrong — the part many paid reports leave out.

Try a warm-up question

This one doesn't count. It just gives you a feel for the format. In the real test, questions go from easier to harder.

WARM-UP · NUMBER SEQUENCES

Find the pattern: 2, 6, 12, 20, 30, ?

Look at the gaps between numbers: 4, 6, 8, 10… What should the next gap be?

What's tested: five skill areas

4 questions per area, 20 total. Types are mixed together, difficulty builds as you go, and later questions carry more weight.

Pattern Reasoning

Spot the rule in a visual sequence: shape, rotation, and count.

4 questions

Number Sequences

Find what comes next: differences, multiples, alternating patterns, and classic sequences.

4 questions

Logical Reasoning

Deduction, syllogisms, ordering, and who's-telling-the-truth puzzles.

4 questions

Spatial Reasoning

Counting shapes, mental rotation, and top-down views — turning objects in your head.

4 questions

Verbal Analogies

How words relate: function, place, category, and measurement.

How scoring works — fully disclosed

A lot of IQ sites hide their math because it wouldn't hold up to scrutiny. Here's our full method for this version, in the open.

How your score is calculated

Each question is weighted by difficulty (easy = 1, medium = 2, hard = 3). We first compute your weighted accuracy p, then convert it to an IQ score:

IQ = 100 + 15 × (p − 55%) ÷ 18%, clamped to a range of 70–145. In plain terms: getting about half the weighted credit puts you near 100 (right at the population average), and a perfect paper scores about 138 — there is no “casually score a 145” here.

Where the percentile comes from

Percentiles assume IQ scores follow a normal distribution with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15 — the standard convention in the U.S. For example, 115 is about the 84th percentile, and 130 is about the 98th.

Why the margin is ±7 points

A 20-question test naturally bounces around: your focus, a lucky guess, or one odd question can move the result. ±7 points is a typical measurement error for a short test like this — your “true” level most likely falls inside that range, rather than being exactly the headline number.

A note on age

Before you start, we ask for your age group. For now it's only used as context in your report. This version does not yet use separate age-based norms — everyone is scored on the same conversion — so treat the result as a rough sense of where you stand, not an age-adjusted clinical score.

Straight talk: IQGrab is a self-administered online test. With 20 questions and a small norm base, it is not comparable to a professionally administered assessment like the WAIS. Your result is for self-understanding and entertainment only and should not be used for school admissions, hiring or employment decisions, or any clinical diagnosis. If you need a formal evaluation, see a licensed psychologist.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really completely free? Will you charge later?

This version is entirely free: score, percentile, five-skill breakdown, and every explanation. If we ever add a paid feature, the price will be stated clearly before you start — never as a surprise paywall after you finish.

Do I need an account or a phone number?

No. The whole test runs in your browser. Your answers are not uploaded, and there is no account system. Close the page and the result is gone — if you want to keep it, copy the summary on the results page.

Can I retake it?

Yes — there's a “Retake” button on the results page. Just know that a retake after you've seen the answers will be inflated. Your first, honest attempt is the most meaningful one: grab your score once, carefully, instead of fishing for a higher number.

Can I pause in the middle?

No. Once the timer starts it keeps running, and the test auto-submits at 15 minutes. You can move back and forth and change answers — a good strategy is to do the ones you know first and save the tough ones for last.
